The Big 6
All Teaching Schools are tasked with the responsibility to lead on six areas of school and professional development.
These areas support the consistent development of staff and children throughout their educational careers, and are comprised of the following:
Initial Teacher Training
Teaching Schools are responsible for working alongside Higher Education Institutes to support the high quality provision of Initial Teacher Training. Forest Learning Alliance work alongside the University of Reading to deliver the School Direct Training Programme, and are one of the first lead schools in the country to support the Maths Specialism Programme for Primary Teachers.
Continual Professional Development
Forest Learning Alliance carry out needs analysis and skills audits to identify needs within our schools. Using this information, we plan a series of CPD events which are open to alliance members which take place throughout the year. In addition to this, we are able to offer bespoke CPD for individual or small groups of schools at the specific request of the schools.

Identifying and Developing Leadership Potential
We firmly believe that through developing outstanding leadership, we can have a big impact on school improvement as a whole. With that in mind, we offer a range of leadership development opportunities, and work closely with our alliance schools to identify individuals who may be leaders of the future.
Forest Learning Alliance is working closely with our local authority to support schools that have an identified need. We have a support package available which offers tailor-made support from our experienced practitioners, which is supported and facilitated by our team of outstanding leaders.
Recruitment and Deployment of Specialist Leaders of Education
Forest Learning Alliance have recruited a number of SLEs who have specialist skills and knowledge and experience of supporting school leaders. They are deployed to schools with and beyond FLA to share this practise with other schools. http://www.forestlearningalliance.org.uk/sle/sle-support
Research and Development
Forest Learning Alliance is in a position to apply for and distribute funds to support the ongoing research that is taking place in schools nationwide. We are currently involved in one of the biggest trials to take place in education, identifying and analysing the impact of intervention schemes designed to Close the Gap.
